Rocketman Star Taron Egerton Addresses Straight Actors Playing Gay Roles

The debate continues over whether it's appropriate for straight actors to play gay roles in movies and TV shows, as this is something that has resulted in online criticism in recent years. Perhaps that's a sign of how quickly things can start to change in Hollywood, as it wasn't so long ago when Taron Egerton won a Golden Globe Award for doing just that. The actor played openly gay singer Elton John in the acclaimed biopic Rocketman, released by Dexter Fletcher in 2019. In addition to earning big profits at the box office, the movie had also drawn a lot of praise for Egerton in particular with the reviews from critics.
