Update – December 21, 2021: We have updated this post to add the just confirmed series The Book of Boba Fett to our list of upcoming Disney Plus Star Wars shows.

The Rise of Skywalker is the last Star Wars feature film from Disney until at least late 2023. However, fans of the sci-fi/fantasy franchise will still get plenty of new live-action content over the next few years. That’s because there are a ton of upcoming Disney Plus Star Wars shows in the works.

The streaming service is already home to all of the feature films. However, Disney Plus struck it big with the release of its hit Star Wars TV spin-off The Mandalorian in November 2019. Now, as Disney Plus has launched in more countries, even more people are able to officially watch The Mandalorian and his lovable companion, “the child.” They are also able to watch the all-new seventh and final season of the acclaimed animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. You can even watch an all-new Lego Star Wars Holiday Special on the service.

But what lies ahead for Disney Plus Star Wars shows? Let’s use the Force (or rather, previous announcements from Disney) to see into the future and get the info on the service’s plans for perhaps the biggest pop culture franchise of all time.

The end of The Mandalorian Season 2 contained a big surprise for most viewers (Spoiler Alert). It showed bounty hunter Boba Fett, along with his companion Fennec Shand, entering the palace of the now-deceased Jabba the Hutt on Tattoine. After assassinating Jabba’s right hand alien Bib Fortuna, we saw Boba sit down in Jabba’s former throne. Finally, it was revealed that “The Book of Boba Fett” would debut in December 2021.

The official press release doesn’t offer up much more information. It does confirm that Temuera Morrison will be back as Boba, along with Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand. It also states that director Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Alita: Battle Angel), who directed an episode of The Mandalorian season 2, will be an executive producer of the series, along with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. It’s likely that he will be directing at least one of the episodes of this new show.

If you are wondering what’s happening with season 3 of The Mandalorian, the press release for The Book of Boba Fett says that it will go into production in 2021, so it’s likely that we will have to wait until early 2022 for that season to appear.

Star Wars: Andor (2022)

One of the big Disney Plus Star Wars shows in the works will focus on two of the most memorable characters in the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Actor Diego Luna will star in the series, reprising his role as Rebel officer Cassian Andor. The other returning character is K-2SO, the former Imperial droid that’s now programmed to work with the Rebellion. Actor Alan Tudyk will again provide the voice and motion capture acting for the role.

Other people who have been cast include Genevieve O’Reilly, who played the younger Mon Mothma in Rogue One. The cast list also includes Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Stellan Skarsgard and Kyle Soller in currently unknown roles.

The plot of the series is unknown at this point. The only thing we do know is that it takes place well before the events of Rogue One (for obvious reasons) and it will be a “rousing spy thriller.” Filming for the series should begin later this year for a 2022 drop date on Disney Plus. Tony Gilroy, who was credited with co-writing Rogue One, will write the pilot episode of the series. Toby Haynes, who has directed episodes of Doctor Who, Sherlock, and the Emmy-award winning Black Mirror episode U.S.S. Callister will direct the first three episodes of the series. Filming in London has already begun.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)

Another major entry in the Disney Plus Star Wars shows list is the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Yes, Ewan McGregor, who played the role of the Jedi in the Star Wars prequel films, is slated to return to play Obi-Wan (Ben) Kenobi. Not much is known about this series yet, other than it takes place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith. We do know that Hayden Christensen will be returning as Darth Vader.  Deborah Chow, who directed two episodes of The Mandalorian during its first season, will reportedly direct all six episodes of the Obi-Wan show. Production has now been delayed until March 2021.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch (2021)

Disney Plus recently dropped the seventh and final season of the acclaimed Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. That show introduced fans to The Bad Batch, a group of Republic clone troopers with different genetic codes and talents compared to most of the other clones. Now, Disney plans to release an entire spinoff series focusing on these troopers, Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

The series will take place after The Clone Wars. We presume that the Bad Batch troopers were not affected by the Emperor’s Order 66 directive. The official press release states that the Bad Batch will be taking on “daring mercenary missions as they struggle to stay afloat and find a new purpose.” Dave Filoni, who led the original Clone Wars team, is an executive producer for this new series, which is due in 2021. It may be one of the best Disney Plus Star Wars shows.

Star Wars: The Acolyte (TBD)

This show itself is being created by Leslye Headland. She was the co-creator and showrunner of the Emmy-winning Netflix series Russian Doll that debuted in 2019. Not much is known about this show, other than it will be female-centric and will be a “mystery-thriller that will take the audience into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”

Star Wars: Ashoka (TBD)

Rosario Dawson portrayed the Jedi Knight Ashoka Tano in the second season of The Mandalorian. Now she will get her own limited series set during the events of that show. Nothing else has been revealed about this series.

Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic (TBD)

Here’s another spin-off of the Mandalorian, which will reportedly link up with its parent show and Ashoka in a story that will conclude in a “climactic story event”. Nothing else is known about the series.

Star Wars: Lando (TBD)

Lando Calrissian is coming back in this series created by Justin Simien, director of the movie Dear White People. Nothing else is known about the series, including who will play Lando.

Star Wars: Visions (TBD)

This will be a series of 10 short films created by some of the best Japanese anime directors and studios. Nothing else is known about the series.

Star Wars: A Droid Story (TBD)

A collaboration between Lucasfilm Animation and Industrial Light and Magic, this animated series will focus on a new droid in the Star Wars universe. It will be guided by classic droids R2-D2 and C-3PO.

That’s a look at all the Disney Plus Star Wars shows coming in the next few years. We will update this post when more information on these Disney Plus Star Wars shows are revealed.
