The bizarre story is oddly enough based on true events, taking inspiration from the story of a bear who consumed cocaine discarded in the Georgia woods by a drug smuggler. In real life, the bear died of an overdose before it was found, so that's where the similarities end between the true story and Cocaine Bear.
