The Samsung Galaxy A22 is now available in India (h/t GizmoChina). This comes after the device made its debut in Europe and the UK in early June.
Although other Samsung mid-rangers largely inspire the phone’s styling, the A22 packs some decidedly budget touches. A sizeable chin meets a waterdrop notch up front. At the rear, the A22’s quad-camera array is more akin to the Galaxy F line than the vertical arrangement used by the Galaxy A32.
Nevertheless, the Samsung Galaxy A22 is an impressive prospect on paper for its price. It features a 90Hz 6.4-inch AMOLED with a 1,600 x 720 resolution. Internally, there’s a MediaTek Helio G80 with 4G connectivity mated to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. A 5,000mAh battery with 15W charging powers this cocktail.
That aforementioned quad-camera features a 48MP primary sensor with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide, and two 2MP sensors for macro shooting and depth data. A 16MP selfie camera rounds up the shooting smarts.
Other niceties include Android 11 out-of-the-box, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, Wi-Fi 5 support, NFC, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Interestingly, the Galaxy A22 seems incredibly similar to the Galaxy F22 on paper except that the latter packs a larger 6,000mAh battery. Factoring this in, expect the F series phone to cost a little more than the A22.
Samsung Galaxy A22: Pricing and availability in India
The Samsung Galaxy A22 is available in Mint and Black colorways. Pricing starts at Rs 18,499 (~$248) on Amazon India, which is considerably lower than Europe and the UK’s list prices.
As a solid all-round prospect, that sticker should also give the Galaxy A22 a firm foothold in the Indian market. It will go up against the likes of the Poco X3 — which packs a 120Hz display and bigger battery — and the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max — which features a 64MP primary camera.
