Epic could bring the full Rocket League game to mobile devices

  • Epic had plans to bring the full Rocket League title to smartphones and mobile devices, a leaked document suggests.
  • Under a new client, the game would support cross-play and cross-progression.
  • It’s unclear if Epic is still working on the project.

According to a leaked internal document, Epic Games could bring Psyonix’s fully-fledged Rocket League title to mobile devices.

Uploaded by The Verge (h/t Android Police), the document suggests Epic is developing a “next-generation client” that will bring the “full game experience” to mobile and other platforms. Under this client, the game would feature cross-play and progress sharing across all platforms.

While Rocket League Sideswipe — a 2D mobile-first version of the car soccer title — is already in development for mobile, this document points to Epic’s larger goals for the game.

The document spills plenty of beans on Epic’s 2021 plans, but there are a few things to note. For starters, it’s dated June 2020. There’s a chance that Epic may have shuttered this development well before its court case with Apple. This document doesn’t guarantee that Rocket League will come to mobile devices in the future.

Nevertheless, Q2 2021 was the date set for a mobile beta. If Epic does still have plans for such a project, expect to hear more about them in the coming months. The company’s vision for Rocket League could be a massive boost for players and the game.
