For all the good that smartphones bring to the world, they can also be incredibly distracting. Now, it looks like Google is rolling out a new Digital Wellbeing feature that will help in this regard.

The Verge reports that the beta version of the Digital Wellbeing app is now getting a so-called Heads Up feature. As the name implies, the feature detects when you’re using your phone while walking and reminds you to be wary of your surroundings.

“If you’re walking while using your phone, get a reminder to focus on what’s around you,” reads a screenshot of the feature posted by a Twitter user. The screenshot also notes that Heads Up “doesn’t replace paying attention.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Heads Up functionality, as XDA-Developers uncovered references to this feature last year. Nevertheless, it’s still a handy feature to have. Hopefully Google somehow implements this feature while driving too, as distracted driving is another serious concern.
