LG promises three years of Android updates for existing premium phones
- LG has promised three years of Android updates for all premium phones released in 2019 or later.
- The upgradable devices include the LG G series, V series, Velvet, and Wing.
- Some more affordable models will also get two OS updates.
Earlier this week, LG announced that it’ll be wrapping up its smartphone business by the end of July. At the time, the company said that it’ll continue providing software updates to certain phones in certain regions. Now, LG has clarified just which phones will be eligible for future Android updates and how many.
In its latest announcement, the South Korean firm has reassured customers that its premium phones will receive up to three iterations of Android updates from the year of purchase. This three OS update guarantee includes all premium LG phones released in 2019 or later — G series, V series, Velvet, and Wing.
For instance, the LG Velvet launched with Android 10, so it should ideally be eligible for updates till Android 13.
We’ve compiled a list of all these phones below, so if yours is on it, you should be good for the three Android updates.
- LG G8 ThinQ
- LG G8x ThinQ
- LG G8s ThinQ
- LG V50 ThinQ
- LG V60 ThinQ
- LG Velvet
- LG Wing
Besides the premium flagships, LG is also giving some update love to its more affordable phones. Certain 2020 models such as LG Stylo and K series will receive two OS updates.
LG still cautions that future updates will depend on Google’s distribution schedule as well as other factors such as device performance and compatibility. The brand also reiterates that it’ll continue manufacturing phones through the second quarter of 2021, and those who purchase them can expect software updates “for a certain period of time.”
