  • OnePlus has launched its first-ever smartwatch, the OnePlus Watch.
  • The smartwatch comes in standard and limited edition variants.
  • Its price starts at $159.

OnePlus’s first attempt at making a fitness wearable — the OnePlus Band — didn’t really impress us much. In addition to its poor fitness tracking, the cheap wearable also had a limited release in markets like India, leaving out the US, UK, and Europe entirely. Now, OnePlus has launched the highly anticipated OnePlus Watch, marking its global entry into the sub-$200 smartwatch space.

The OnePlus Watch is not a big departure from fitness watches we’ve seen from the likes of Amazfit. It’s got a circular design that resembles the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2. That said, it’s packed with features and boasts some impressive specs.

The OnePlus Watch has a 1.39-inch 326 PPI AMOLED display, covered with 2.5D curved glass. It sits within a 46mm case made of stainless steel. There’s a subtle glossy pattern on the display bezel for added design aesthetics.

Under the hood, the OnePlus Watch comes with built-in GPS and 4GB of storage, of which only 2GB is available for actual use. OnePlus says you can easily pack 500 songs in that much space for listening to music on the go. The watch is also compatible with most Bluetooth earbuds for wireless music playback.

You can even use it to control a OnePlus TV remotely to lower the volume when a call comes in or automatically turn off the TV when you fall asleep.

For software, OnePlus is using a Real Time Operation System (RTOS), much like what we’ve seen on Amazfit watches. That means you may not get support for third-party apps. The interface is also much simpler than what you’d find with Wear OS watches.

A 402mAh battery gives an advertised two weeks worth of juice to the wearable during “sustainable use.” OnePlus claims if you’re a power user, you should still get at least a week of power before needing to recharge the smartwatch.

As expected, OnePlus has equipped the device with fast charging capabilities. The brand claims that the OnePlus Watch can deliver a day’s worth of power in just five minutes or charging or a week’s worth in just 20 minutes.

Surprisingly, the OnePlus Watch features both IP68 and 5ATM ratings for protection against water and dust. The latter also ensures its survival in water up to 50 meters in depth for 10 minutes.

Fitness tracking and other features

The OnePlus Watch features a heart rate sensor, spot blood oxygen/SpO2 checks, stress detection, sleep monitoring, and over 110 workout modes.

You can also track personal performance metrics such as calories, distance, speed, swimming efficiency (SWOLF score), and more. In addition, the watch brings helpful features like breath training, rapid heart rate alerts, and sedentary reminders. All this data will sync with the OnePlus Health app, where you’ll be able to view, analyze, and track it.

Besides fitness features, the OnePlus Watch will also let users make and receive calls, respond to notifications, and take photos remotely.

OnePlus Watch Cobalt Limited Edition

Alongside the standard stainless steel OnePlus Watch, the company has also announced the OnePlus Watch Cobalt Limited Edition. The wearable upgrades the build quality by integrating premium materials.

Its case is crafted using cobalt alloy, which OnePlus claims is twice as hard and corrosion-resistant compared to stainless steel. The watch face is made of sapphire glass, and a leather band replaces the standard model’s rubber (fluoroelastomer) straps.

The rest of the features of this limited edition variant remain the same.

Price and availability

The standard OnePlus Watch will be available in Midnight Silver or Midnight Black for €159 in Europe, $159 in the US, $219 in Canada, and Rs. 16,999 in India. The Cobalt Limited Edition price has yet to be announced.

As for competitors, Xiaomi recently made the Mi Watch available in Europe at the same price. Huami also has a range of good options in that category, including the Amazfit GTS 2, GTR 2, and GTS 2 Mini.
