  • The internal Android 12 codename is reported to be “snow cone.” However, that name wasn’t too popular for our readers.
  • In a poll, we determined that “sundae” would have been a more popular name for Google to have used.
  • Please note that Google has yet to formally confirm “snow cone” as the name, so it’s possible it could be different.

Before we saw the first Android 12 developer preview, we learned of the possible internal “sweet treat” name for the newest version of the operating system. Our best guess is that the codename is “snow cone.” If Google didn’t abandon the sweet treat moniker in 2019 with Android 10, we would have likely seen Android 12 Snow Cone land.

However, our readers aren’t too fond of snow cones. There are a lot of other “S” treats Google could have used instead. To figure out which one would have been the best, we conducted a poll. The results are below.

Android 12 codename poll results

The chart makes it clear that “sundae” would have been the most popular alternative to the assumed Android 12 codename. Interestingly, “salted caramel” came in third place. Considering the initials for “snow cone” and “salted caramel” are the same, it would have been so easy for Google to pick that one.

Unfortunately, some other treats didn’t fare as well. In last place, we saw “sheet cake,” which was so unpopular that even “sponge cake” beat it out. It’s surprising how high “s’more” landed in the poll, considering that is a specifically American treat.

Did we miss a treat name? Let us know in the comments if you think there’s something better than what appeared on this list.
