Samsung announces Exynos event, Galaxy S21 processor expected
- Samsung has announced that a new Exynos processor is coming.
- This is expected to be the Exynos 2100 flagship chipset.
- The launch is set for January 12, 2021.
Samsung has already announced a new upper mid-range processor in the Exynos 1080, making for a major upgrade over its previous mid-range silicon. This isn’t the only SoC the company is working on, as it’s now revealed that a new Exynos chipset is coming next month.
The Korean manufacturer made the announcement on social media, revealing a January 12 2021 launch. The posts add that “a whole new Exynos is coming.” Check out a screenshot of the Twitter post below.
This new chipset is expected to be the Exynos 2100 flagship processor, set to power the Galaxy S21 series in several markets. It’s also interesting to note that the Galaxy S21 family is rumored to launch on January 14, so it would make sense for the Exynos 2100 chip to be revealed ahead of the phones.
There’s no official word on specs for the new chipset just yet, but it’s expected to offer the powerful Cortex-X1 CPU, Arm’s new Cortex-A78 cores, as well as Arm’s Mali-G78 GPU. Journalist Roland Quandt reported that the new processor is an octa-core design and packs one 2.9Ghz high performance CPU core, three 2.8Ghz cores, and four 2.4Ghz cores. We’re also expecting the Exynos 2100 to sport 8K recording and improved power efficiency.
